King Black Dragon
The King Black Dragon held a long record for highest level monster, but was replaced relatively recently by the Kalphite Queen. Afterwards, he was the highest level monster in the Wilderness, but was soon replaced by the Chaos Elemental. Afterwards, he was the highest level Dragon, but was replaced by the Mithril Dragon. He is now the highest level dragon in the Wilderness, as well as the highest level regular dragon.
The King Black Dragon's power against a Mithril Dragon is a very known debate amongst RuneScape but it is common knowledge that the King Black Dragon has more dangerous characteristics (freezing, poisoning, multi-attacking , etc...) than a Mithril dragon.

The King Black Dragon Lair
The King Black Dragon Lair is a multi-combat area, allowing groups of players to fight him simultaneously. The lair is a level 44 Wilderness dungeon near the Lava Maze. The dungeon may be accessed via a ladder in a fenced area on the west end of the Lava Maze containing four Lesser Demons. The ladder leads to an area with poison spiders, and a lever which will teleport the character to the King Black Dragon's lair. The lair itself isn't in the Wilderness, but players are in the Wilderness until they pull the lever. If a player got teleblocked, he/she can't pull the lever. Players also may note they do not have to leave via ladder, you can use a teleport to exit if need be. Players should note that Lumbridge Home Teleport does work while in the lair.
Attacks
The King Black Dragon uses many attacks, and can use melee, magic and ranged attacks - making it a well-rounded and difficult foe. The King Black Dragon uses a magic attack similar to fire wave, which can easily damage melee players. It also uses 5 types of breath attack, all of which may cause high damage.
- Regular dragonfire like all dragons
- Ice breath that can freeze players to the ground
- Poison breath that will deal 8 poison damage
- Water-like breath attack
- A "shock" attack which briefly stops the player from attacking
Killing him becomes easier if the group forms a circle around him. He pauses between attacks to choose a target and he does not attack everyone at the same time.
"Beginner" Suggestions for Fighting
For those who have never been to fight the "KBD" and are planning on going on their first trip, here are a few suggestions. As players become more accustomed to fighting it, they will better know their personal abilities and can adjust accordingly, these suggestions are just for "first-timers" to the King Black Dragon's Lair.
First of all, it's very important to bring an Anti-dragon shield from the Dragon Slayer quest, this will protect you from most of the damage done from his fire-breath attack. It's suggested to have a prayer level that will give you access to at least Protect from magic, as this is the suggested prayer to use. It's recommended to use melee, at least on the first trip, so bring good melee armour and a good one-handed melee weapon. Also, bring several Prayer potions, 1-2 Antipoison potions, a "one-click" teleport, and lots of food (Monkfish or Sharks are suggested). Going with a group is much safer too.
