These are the basics to account safety.
Hacking is tricking someone into giving you the password or taking it by means of a key-logger/virus.
- Don't ever tell anyone your pass word. Not even your brother or best friend
- Change your password often. For example once every 2-6 months
- Make your password complex, but still memorable. Something like “j23kem4h†would be a bad example. Also something personal or obvious like “runescape†or your username would be bad.
- Don't use your Runescape password for anything except runescape.com.
- Set and change your recovery questions every month
- Run virus scans weekly to check for key-loggers or other virus
- Make sure you have a firewall. Download Zone Alarm (free) if you don't have one.
- Always Always! have a antivirus scanner if you cant afford one use online ones like housecall or panda also use www.virusscan.jotti.com to scan .exe files!
- Always have a personal spyware/ad-ware remover!
Anti-Scamming
Scamming is tricking another player into giving you some thing without a fair trade.
Tips to avoid scamming:
- Never give anything without collateral
- Don't believe every thing you hear
- Always check the second trade window
- People of all levels scam people
Here are most of the scams:
- Free trimming-People claim they can trim the armor. Remember the only way can get trimmed armor is by treasure trails and buying them from other players
- “Tell me your pass and I will pay for you membership-That person just wants to hack you and ….GET REAL! Do you actually think people will pay 5 dollars a month for you?
- “Selling account *price*â€-First of all they will give you a wrong password or use the recovery questions to get the account back. Second of all, it's against one of the rules
- “You can say you password out loud, see “********â€- They are tricking you. Your password will show up unless it has a swear word.
